Most petrol and diesel drivers pay around 17p a mile for fuel. Charge an electric car overnight at home, and that cost can fall to roughly 2p a mile. That’s nine times cheaper!
But you need to get three things right.
Range. First, choose an EV with enough range for your normal journeys, not the biggest battery available.
Home charging. Install a home charger and switch to an electricity tariff offering cheap overnight power.
Charging schedule. Schedule the car to charge only during those cheaper hours.
Combine this with 50% Salary Sacrifice tax savings on EV leases, and an EV can cost considerably less than many drivers imagine.
